Many attempts have been made to improve mass transfer by reducing the size of reactors. However, such reduction will fairly quickly reach practical limitations and numerous difficulties still remain. Catalytic washcoat shape and properties may be critical design factors, but the mechanisms for their effects on mass transfer characteristics are still not fully understood. To effectively eliminate problems associated with mass transport phenomena in microstructured steam-methanol reformers, the effects of washcoat shape and properties were investigated in various situations by performing computational fluid dynamics simulations. The dependence of the solution on mass transfer characteristics was reduced to a small number of dimensionless parameters. A dimensionless mass transfer analysis was carried out in terms of the Sherwood, Schmidt, and pore Reynolds numbers. The results indicated that the rate of mass transfer is predominantly controlled by washcoat properties, and porosity and effective thermal conductivity are fundamentally important. The rate of the reforming reaction is typically controlled by kinetics at a temperature of 480 K and limited by mass transfer at a temperature of 580 K. The shape of washcoats affects the overall mass transfer characteristics, depending on the structural and thermal properties of washcoats. The shape effect is limited by heat transfer. A three-fold increase in effectiveness factor can be achieved by increasing the effective thermal conductivity of the washcoat. Design recommendations were finally made to improve transport characteristics for the systems.  相似文献

KTaO3 and KTa0.9M0.1O3-α (M = Ti, Hf, Zr) were prepared by solid state reaction at 1330 °C for 2 h and characterized by x-ray diffraction. The AC impedance technique was used to analyze the sintered solid electrolytes in 1%H2/Ar and dry air atmosphere. Among KTa0.9M0.1O3-α (M = Ti, Hf, Zr), KTa0.9Zr0.1O3-α displays the highest conductivity in 1%H2/Ar atmosphere. The carriers transport numbers of solid electrolytes were measured by concentration cell method. The results show KTa0.9Zr0.1O3-α is a pure proton conductor below 525 °C. Stability tests show that KTa0.9Zr0.1O3-α has good chemical stability against CO2 and H2O.  相似文献

Syngas methanation in a laboratory transport‐bed reactor has been performed. It was found that the CO conversion over the granular Ni/Al2O3 catalyst only slightly increased with the rise of aeration gas velocity for the recycling valve but severely decreased due to decreased gas residence time in the reactor. The effect of increasing the temperature of the recycled catalyst on the CO conversion at atmospheric pressure was also studied. Both the experimental temperature rise along the transport‐bed reactor and the estimated heat balance involving reactions verified the high heat‐transfer efficiency and its technical superiority for syngas methanation.  相似文献

Whereas large-scale consumption of energy-dense foods contributes to climate change, we investigated whether exposure to climate change-induced food scarcity affects preferences toward these foods. Humans’ current psychological mechanisms have developed in their ancestral evolutionary past to respond to immediate threats and opportunities. Consequently, these mechanisms may not distinguish between cues to actual food scarcity and cues to food scarcity distant in time and space. Drawing on the insurance hypothesis, which postulates that humans should respond to environmental cues to food scarcity through increased energy consumption, we predicted that exposing participants to climate change-induced food scarcity content increases their preferences toward energy-dense foods, with this effect being particularly pronounced in women. Three experiments—including one preregistered laboratory study—confirm this notion. Our findings jointly demonstrate that receiving information about food shortages distant in time and space can influence current food preferences.  相似文献

Hydrogen production from waste glycerol, mainly producible as a by-product of biodiesel synthesis, is investigated as an attractive opportunity for exploiting renewable energy sources for further applications. Glycerol steam reforming using membrane technology was modeled by taking into accounts the maim transport phenomena, thermodynamic criteria and chemical process kinetics. A sensitivity analysis of operating conditions was made for key performance metrics such as glycerol conversion, hydrogen yield and hydrogen recovery. Glycerol conversion intensifies with enhancement of operating pressure and temperature, whereas high feed molar ratio and sweep ratio have limiting effect. Hydrogen permeation and subsequently, hydrogen recovery facilitates with increasing sweep gas ratio and sweep gas temperature. Hydrogen recovery enhances from 70% to 99% with increasing temperature from 350 to 500 °C at feed molar ratio of 3. Also, hydrogen recovery improves from 50% to 71% with increasing sweep ratio from 0 to 20 at 350 °C and 1 bar.  相似文献

Proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) have been identified as one of the most promising renewable energy system for use in automotive applications. However, due to the wide range of weather conditions around the world, the PEMFCs must be stable for operating under these variable conditions. One of the inefficiencies of PEMFCs in automotive applications is during vehicle warm-up, where the low hydration level within the PEMFC can lead to a low performance of the fuel cell. In this study, a proton exchange membrane (PEM) was prepared with regular, microstructured features tuned over a range of aspect ratios. These microstructured membranes were incorporated into MEAs and analyzed for their membrane, proton, and oxygen transport resistances. These fuel cells were tested under different conditions to simulate vehicle start-up, normal operating conditions, and hot operating conditions. It was determined that microstructured PEMs improved performance over planar PEMs under both the start-up and hot conditions. Despite the improved performance of the microstructured PEMs, a high hydrogen cross-over and short-circuit current were also observed for these samples. Adjusting the preparation techniques and tuning the dimensions of the microstructures may provide avenues for further optimization of PEMFC performance.  相似文献

Superconducting performance of a large-scale Nb3Sn cable-in-conduit conductor (CICC) is degraded by periodic bending of strands subjected to a distributed transverse electromagnetic force during operation. The current transport in a single strand depends mainly on the bending strain and transverse resistivity. In particular, in the case of high-level strain and/or crack occurring among the filaments in the strain-sensitive Nb3Sn strand, these two parameters are required for better understanding of the critical current Ic degradation of a single strand. We use finite element method to simulate transport properties of a single Nb3Sn strand under bending. The simulation allows treating a wider range of transverse resistivity of strand, compared with our previous analytical method (Cryogenic, 58, 2013). Also, the present simulation incorporates the change of the area of strand cross section due to filament fracture into the boundary of the current transport, rather than simply imposes the condition of vanishing current on the filament fracture region as in the previous analytical method. We show the current/field profiles in the strand for various bending loads and transverse resistivities, as well as the Ic degradation of several types of strands under bending.  相似文献

School educators play an important role in cyberbullying management. Since scarce earlier research indicated low perceived competence of school educators in handling cyberbullying, more insight is needed in what determines their actions and how to improve these practices. This study assessed school educator practices, their perceptions and context factors from a behavior change theoretical framework, and investigated educator clusters related to this. An online survey was conducted among 451 secondary school educators (teachers, principals, school counselors). School educators mostly used recommended actions (i.e. conversations with pupils, enlisting professionals for support, parental involvement, providing supportive victim advice). Four educator clusters were identified: ‘referrers’ (65%), ‘disengaged’ educators (14%), ‘concerned’ educators (12%) and ‘use all means’ educators (9%). The first two clusters were less adept at handling cyberbullying and comprised mostly teachers, particularly indicating a need for training teachers. Our findings show a need for tailored educator training, e.g. by job position, gender, school size and grade. The behavior change theoretical framework can help target educators' particular needs.  相似文献

Superabsorbent polymers (SAP) can be used as a means for internal curing of concrete. In the present study, the development of transport properties of concrete with SAP is investigated. The chloride migration coefficient according to NT BUILD 492 is used as a measure of this. Twenty concrete mixtures are tested 7, 14, and 28 days after casting. The development of degree of hydration is followed for 20 corresponding paste mixtures.Both when SAP is added with extra water to compensate the SAP water absorption in fresh concrete and without extra water, the internal curing water held by SAP may contribute to increase the degree of hydration. No matter if SAP is added with or without extra water, it appears that the so-called gel space ratio can be used as a key parameter to link age and mixture proportions (water-to-cement ratio and SAP dosage) to the resulting chloride migration coefficient; the higher the volume of gel solid relative to the space available for it, the lower the chloride migration coefficient, because the pore system becomes more tortuous and the porosity becomes less.  相似文献

Education professionals and researchers are concerned by school bullying and cyberbullying because of its repercussions on students’ health and the school climate. However, only a few studies investigating the impact of school versus cyberbullying have systematically explored whether student victims and perpetrators are involved in school bullying only, cyberbullying only, or both. The aim of the present study was thus to examine the possible overlap, as well as the similarities and/or differences, between these two forms of bullying when taking modality of involvement into account. Individual interviews were conducted with 1422 junior high- and high-school students (girls = 43%, boys = 57%, mean age = 14.3 ± 2.7 years). Results showed that cyberbullying and school bullying overlapped very little. The majority of students involved in cyberbullying were not simultaneously involved in school bullying. Moreover, results indicated that psychosocial problems (psychological distress, social disintegration, general aggression) varied according to the form of bullying. Victims of school bullying had greater internalizing problems than cybervictims, while school bullies were more aggressive than cyberbullies. Given the sizable proportion of adolescents involved in bullying (school and cyber) and its significant relationship with mental health, the issue warrants serious attention from school and public health authorities.  相似文献
